Congratulations on Dr. Ganesh Thiagarajan and Rini Mitra
First place awarded to UMKC engineers in International Earthquake Simulation Competition
University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Computing and Engineering assistant professor Ganesh Thiagarajan and student Rini Mitra won first place in an international blind prediction contest for an earthquake simulation.
School of Computing and Engineering/Civil and Mechanical engineering assistant professor Ganesh Thiagarajan and graduate student Rini Mitra participated in an International Blind prediction Competetion.
A full scale four story steel framed building was subjected to a real earthquake in a shake table in Japan and the participants were required to predict various quantities relating the performance of the building prior to the testing event.
The team stood first in the category of researchers who built a three dimensional model of the building for the contest. Teams from seven countries participated in the competetion.
